Many industries in Europe have been under pressure to change, consolidate or restructure. One of the largest and most fragmented sectors, the manufacture of food and drink, has been relatively untouched. The advent of the European Union has created the impetus to review the marketplace and look for new opportunities to drive increased revenue.

Key opportunities exist for large food and beverage producers to transfer their scale-based capabilities to the right opportunities in Europe’s wholesale markets. This will require manufacturers to apply their skills in range management, logistics, and marketing to exploit these opportunities.

However, new challenges from consumers worldwide demanding inexpensive fresh foods has made it difficult for operatives to take advantage of some of the bio-tech enhancements. At the same time increased regulation, restrictive import quotas, reducing tariffs and harmonising consumer health rules are having an impact.

For Pharmaceuticals the picture is very different. The cost of innovation has become so high and the result so unpredictable, that it has looked both internally and creatively to deal with these challenges. Companies are now applying as much scrutiny to internally developed drugs as they do to licensed ones – thus creating a benchmarked standard to their R and D teams and achieving a better balance between internally and externally generated candidates. At the same time they are forging ahead with alliances to reduce complexity, costs and create better value for all parties.

TKP’s approach is to help ensure a wide multifunctional understanding of your business and your environment. Our consultants can then apply the relevant skills that can make the most difference in supporting clients in their search for improved operational effectiveness.
