What are the Building on IT surveys? Believed to be the only comprehensive IT survey of its kind, dedicated exclusively to the construction sector, Building on IT follows on from the original, highly successful series of surveys of the same name carried out during the late 1980’s and early ‘90’s, and aims to re-establish an important source of industry benchmark data designed to help construction organisations manage, plan, develop and invest in modernised IT infrastructure and systems to ensure organisation competitiveness, industry process efficiency and client value. There will be three surveys in the series: -
Cost reduction and cost effectiveness (June 2009) -
IT infrastructure (October 2009) -
IT applications (February 2010) The first survey, Cost reduction and cost effectiveness, has been chosen to provide an insight into the issues that companies working in the industry are currently having to address in order to extract greatest value from their IT resources and investments and deal with the current extremely challenging economic conditions where budgets are under threat. Why should my organisation take part? Survey contributors will be entitled to a free copy of each survey report (List price £90 and £60 to NCC and Construct IT members) which will be available approximately one month after the report launch dates as indicated above. Contributors will also be entitled to significant discounts (up to 100%*) on a final Industry Analysis and Trend Report (List price £795, and £500 to NCC and Construct IT members) that will be produced on completion of the survey series and which will include the results of further one-to-one interviews and follow-ups with contributors, and the feedback from roundtable events to be announced shortly. *NB Organisations that contribute to all three surveys will be entitled to the Full Industry Analysis report free of charge. Those that take part in one or two of the surveys will be entitled to 30% and 60% discounts respectively. Who is included in the survey sample? The survey sample comprises 500 companies representing the top firms in the industry and engaged in the following types of construction activity: - Civil engineering & building contracting
- Construction management and project management
- Engineering, architectural and environmental technical services
- Infrastructure support services
- House building and property development
- Facilities management, building maintenance and repair
- Construction products manufacturing and distribution.
Why has your organisation been invited to participate in the survey? You will have been emailed a link to the questionnaire as we believe that you hold a key responsibility, either for managing IT or approving IT investment, within one of these ‘Top 200’ organisations. If there is someone else in your organsisation who has a better overall view of IT, please can you forward this to them. The survey analysis will enable each company to compare its own results with comparable organisations, by company size and type of construction activity, and against the industry sample as a whole.
Is it confidential? This survey is being carried out under conditions of strict confidentiality. No individual or organisation will be identified in the results. Although we request contact information for sample control purposes and to enable us to fulfil your entitlement to free reports, organisations may submit a response anonymously if it wishes.
How do I take part? Please complete the online questionnaire by clicking on the link below. The first survey will close on Sunday, 12 July 2009. If you would like to take part but don’t think you will have all of your data available by the survey cut-off date please can you email the survey team on buildingonit@tkp.co.uk or contact Natalie Walker on 0207 0845 735 Who are the survey organisers and sponsors?
