The Knowledge Practice is pleased to have sponsored the launch event for the Smart Governance Network on Tuesday 5th December 2006 and to have delivered a seminar at the event around the practical issues involved in successful Shared Services implementation. Click here for further information on the Smart Governance Network.
The delivery of service in local government can be successfully underpinned by some of the business/technology solutions and commercial models which have been successful in driving private sector effectiveness and efficiency. However, implementing them requires acute sensitivity to the differences between the two environments as well as a thorough grasp of what complex business solutions and change programmes need to make them successful, wherever they take place.
This is the theme of our seminar, delivered by Duncan Hare - Director of Public Sector Consulting (and previously PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Lead Practitioner for Programme and Portfolio Management). The presentation discusses the practical challenges and the capabilities needed to address them. It provides a useful high-level framework which Local Government organisations can use to assess their own capabilities and hence their readiness to embark on a Shared Services initiative. The powerpoint file below includes some notes which help to explain this (once downloaded, click “View”, select “Notes Pages” and print off the resulting view. Read these notes as you step through the presentation in “Slide Show” mode (key F5)).
If you would like help in using this approach to assess your own readiness to implement shared services or would like to discuss any issues around Shared Services implementation or other challenges, Duncan would be pleased to discuss. He can be contacted via duncan.hare@tkp.co.uk or 0845 241 2221
The Knowledge Practice has a significant number of interim managers and consultants who have worked on Shared Services implementation and other issues relevant to the Smart Governance Network. A few of these are outlined in the sample assignments documents found below.
N.B. to access the following documents you will be asked to “log in” and to become a “member” of The Knowledge Practice by filling in a few questions (select the “Client” radio button). Doing so is quick and creates no commitment on your part – it simply allows you access to any non-private knowledge we choose to publicise via our knowledge vault.
